Brand voice
Help CenterIn short
How we read your brand's voice from your documents, what each part of the voice profile does, and how to adjust it or steer it with your notes.
We read your documents and write down how your brand speaks. Every page is written in this voice, and the brand voice check reviews it on each one.
Reading your voice
Press Read my voice. It takes about a minute and costs no credits. You can leave the page. If there is not enough material yet, the step asks you to add documents first.
What the profile holds
- In one paragraph. Your voice in a paragraph. The writer reads it before every page, so it sets the tone more than any single rule.
- Tone. Four scales from 1 to 10: formality, technicality, warmth and authority.
- Average sentence length.
- Voice in practice. Sentences that sound like you, and sentences that show what to avoid.
- Vocabulary. Reach for lists words the writer prefers. Never use lists words that do not fit you; the brand voice check finds each one exactly, on every page.
- Banned punctuation. Marks your brand never uses. The em dash is banned by default.
- Brand terminology. Your own names and terms, defined once so every page uses them the same way.
Adjusting it
Press Adjust to change any part, then Done. Each change saves on its own and applies to everything written from then on.
Your notes
Under Anything we should know? you can write how the brand should sound and which words or claims to keep out. We use the notes the next time we read your voice. Where notes and documents disagree on tone, the notes win. Words you ask us to avoid go onto the never-use list.
Regenerating
Regenerate reads your voice again from your documents. It replaces the changes you made by hand, keeps your notes, takes about a minute and is free.
On the free plan
Your first voice profile is free, read from the pages we read for free. You see part of it. Seeing and adjusting all of it, and regenerating, need a plan.
When it sounds like you, press Confirm voice and continue.
